Well, DCT was signed with Sony Music out of the gate, and had Mike Pela for their producer in London, so that helped (Pela's other production credits include Sade and FYC). http://www.worldsend.com/pela.html A good site for information on Rin: http://www.isenokuni.net/act/urashima.html shows she joi...

Wonderland Concerts

In Tokyo '95 they were held on a similar landfill island in the bay. At the time I wasn't a DCT fan, and remember seeing the fireworks over the bay and thinking they were a bit early (August is fireworks season). Later that summer the great Japanese TV video show 'Countdown TV' -- which plays ~20-30...

I think if they can get 2 English songs together that can get them onto Saturday Night Live -- that would be a pretty good 'break', or at least entre.

Heh heh. Here in Vancouver, she was up on stage (which is about 3 1/2 feet high) and about 6-7 feet away from the audience, with security walking up and down the aisles. She didn't seem that nervous to me. 'bout the same in SF, with no security -- the Fillmore is a club w/ stage. http://www.thefill...

Sunflowers first appeared on their 1993 Magic CD cover. Doing a quick search for himawari & Yoshida Miwa on google.co.jp indicates they are her favorite flower, too. Miwa's act on stage is a lot different from her normal speaking voice (for that, you can catch DCT's short DORIRA segment on the dctga...

Best part of the videos NOW is...

the closest 'seat' for the WL 95 concert was further than the back of the audience for the Fillmore concert. Plus the few times Miwa went down among the audience (usually running by...) doesn't quite compare to her standing in front of you for 90 minutes just singing her heart out for her newer song...

As I just posted in another thread, my experience is very similar to yours, living 1992-2000 in Tokyo, but only getting into (Nihongo-de, hamatteru) DCT in late '98. The Wonderland 95 tape blew my mind, but being a guy not all the songs (eg, 'embarrasing morning return home') just didn't click. But ...

discovering DCT

I was LIVING in Japan 1992-1998 before I really "discovered" them. I'd see them on billboards (for Magic in 1993 and for Delicious in 1995), even hear brief clips from the concerts (videos aren't normally played on broadcast TV, but appearances on music TV shows are more common). I knew the lead sin...

Oh yeah, you know you've turned japanese when you want to be polite to the band (stop clapping) after the encore finished so they can rest up for their next gig. I am wrong in thinking that 90 minutes is more than enough from the band, given it's a Wednesday show and they've got 2 more, the ticket p...

Hey don't worry. Yes I was the other gaijin close to you. GEI, which is pronounced GAY, can mean exactly that in Japanese. While "GEIJIN" isn't really a word, it certainly is lot different than "GAIJIN". Complicating matters is the Japanese GEI-NOU-JIN, literally meaning 'artist', and commonly used ...

Yup, we went to the same show :)

Masa is one of the best bass players that I have ever seen play live. You can’t appreciate the depth of talent till you see him play Since I was like the 4th person to get in I carefully positioned myself to be right between Miwa and Masa (forming the 3rd vertex if you will). It took effort to pull...

Miwa's sparkly fannypack thingy holds her earphone receiver, I think.

gaijin, not geijin (the "geijin" were to your right).
BIG difference.
Good to see you survived your Miwa experience :)
