Utada to release new single in U.S.

The new single is 'Come Back To Me', which unfortunately, sounds like more of the same (http://islandrecords.com/site/promo/splash/utada if you want to hear it). No release date so far. New album to be released "soon". I wonder what she had to do to get Island to let her have another crack at the U.S. market.

Virgin wasn't quite so kind to DCT...

Interesting...a single that actually sounds like something she'd release in Japan (and nothing like Exodus). Maybe she's being serious about the US this time...

Hmmm... it sounds a lot like something from 'Exodus' to me... but you make a good point, Jei. She should make an English version of one of her Japanese singles. Here again, she's trying too hard to sound like an American pop diva.

It sounds a lot less techno-ish to me than what was on Exodus. I'm hoping that they give the song a decent push and not just throw it to the dance clubs like they did with Devil Inside...

Could be the start of a trend...I've heard BoA's video getting on different places here in the states.

It looks like Utada is getting a media blitz in the U.S. like she got for 'Exodus.' Will it work this time? I'm afraid I'm not impressed- let's see if anybody else is.

Interesting plan...you can download her album electronically two months before you can buy it in the stores. We'll see...

Actually, I think whomever did the cover for her album needs to be fired. That lettering it straight out of amateurville...

I don't quite get the cover photo, either. Is she supposed to be looking surprised that she got another U.S. single release?

The album won't be available in the U.S. until May 12th- I wonder what the holdup is?

(It's doing very well in Japan, of course.)

It actually got released digitally here on Mar 24th. Utada's been doing news shows on the west coast lately in support of it. You can even down her video for free on US iTunes. ^^

I guess they're going digitally first to build up support before the real thing comes out...

The clip is up- I tried to post the URL but it gives a "page not found" message. I wasn't impressed- the lyric sounds like something she should have been singing ten years ago, and I couldn't tell if she was supposed to be sounding emotional, or was just having trouble hitting the notes (perhaps a bit of stage fright?). Nevertheless, I'm sure it won't hurt sales (online ones, anyway).

Looks like Utada cracked the Top 100 on Billboard- peaked at #69, now at #139 after three weeks, but still in the Top 200- a much better showing this time. Wonder what sales are like?

Think sales might have taken a little hit when she had to cancel a week's worth of appearance due to illness.

Still, I'm impressed with the push they're giving her. She's right up front when I walk into Best Buy...
