Yay! I guessed the right song they gonna play on Kouhaku! Awesome, Yasashii Kisu o Shite is one of my all time favorites. I'm hoping that the show will appear in a torrent eventually even though the Public Morning Musume tracker is no more.

Jentutu, is that the MS Special they performed Winter Song & Love Letter?
Or is there another one after that...?!?!??

I just watched part of the Music Station 2004 Super Live where they perform...
It's on the Lucia Torrent Tracker right now:
http://torrents.zaeleus.org/torrents-details.php?id=65

Just a little talk with the hosts and then Yasashii kiss o shite...
(Which was great...the regular crew performed with them...And Miwa worked the audience very well ^^).

Damn...the Super Live has a better selection than Kouhaku ^^

Jei, thanks for pointing out the torrent. I'm lost without the MM Public Tracker!
But it's good to check now Lucia Tracker as well as JPOP Suki for some DCT fix every now and then.

Would someone please link to Kouhaku if it gets posted on a torrent??? I'll try to find it myself though...

Still 6 hours to go until 2005 here in Brazil. Happy New Year everyone! :D

No doubt about it, they nailed the performance on Kohaku. This was another case where DCT took a song that I thought was OK, but not great, and turned it into a show-stopper (and now one of my favorites!). They really pushed it all the way and made it sound dramatic. Miwa's kimono-esque outfit was great, the band sounded great, just an awesome performance in front of a huge TV audience.

For those looking, here's a torrent for DCT's performance at Kouhaku
http://mullemeck.serveftp.org/tracker/details.php?id=68

(I've heard even non DCT fan mention that their performance was one of the true highlights of the night...^_^)

Thanks Jei for the link. That's so great to finally see DCT back on Kouhaku, it was such a shame they never got the chance to perform Asa ga Mata Kuru and other wonderful music on the show.

I understand why non DCT fans liked their performance. Miwa's voice is such a delight, you end up enjoying the song anyway. :) Really, I cannot get enough of Miwa singing live, it's too great.

More on Kohaku

Post by zberry » Mon Jan 10, 2005 5:23 pm

I have watched the videotape of the Kohaku performance of Yasashii Kisu o Shite many times now, and I am still blown away. It pretty much sums up everything that makes DCT so great. The lyrics are simply amazing. Really showcases Miwa's songwriting skills. The song builds so wonderfully from beginning to end.
Near the end, there is a shot of Miwa from behind as she steps forward and lets loose. You can see her really making the connection with the audience and delivering the final killer vocal riff.
When you consider that it was a one-song only, no second-chances type of performance, it makes it even more remarkable.
I didn't watch the rest of the tape. I know they were followed by some guy named Gackt or something like that. I couldn't help thinking, "Man, I feel sorry for anybody who has to follow that performance."

great bridge, but the strings make it too enka-y for me. I can see this song run as a campaign song for a car CM or something.

thematically, the song is Zzzzzz-city to me :(

Wish I could understand the ending riff. Subtitles on music performances are like how I learned Japanese :)

It's very interesting to see the Music Station Super Live performance and the Kouhaku performance back-to-back...

Only a week apart, but the differences were interesting....

Since Kouhaku is the more prestigous one:

- Miwa & Masa were more 'formally' dressed...
- Miwa's hair more 'formally' prepared...
- Miwa belted it out a couple levels higher and for all she was worth at the end
- No difference in amount of time (song-wise)
- Only one direct play to the crowd

Music Station was more laid back:

- A lot more casual dress...especially for Miwa
- A mostly braided hair-do for Miwa
- Great singing from Miwa, but not at the same level as Koukahu...
- A lot more playing to the audience
- A very nice acappella at the beginning increasing the length of the song

Very nice to see both Rin and Naomi as the backup singers at both...^^

Considering how Kouhaku has fallen off in ratings and importance over the years (a number of popular acts from this year were only on Music Station), I was a little surprise at the difference. Still, it's interesting to see what a group does at different venues of high popularity...

Also kouhaku is such a respected show. You gotta be pretty formal about it if people like Itsuki Hiroshi or Tendou Yoshimi are appearing.
Hara hara...
