Am I right in thinking US and Japanese plugs and sockets are the same?
So this will fit a Japanese socket http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141448032157

Thanks.

I've never had any problems with using U.S.-made plugs in Japanese sockets.

Same here, altho I think if you have any 3-pronged US plugs, you might have to get a converter to a 2-prong.

Every time I visit Japan I bring a few 3-prong->2-prong adapters. All electronics work fine.
-- anything motorized will go into high gear because of the voltage difference (like massagers, clippers, etc.)
-- you might notice a slight difference in rechargeable speeds (like rechargeable batteries or your cell phone)
