better living through chemistry - Pearl
Good rocking chemicals in the group "Pearl" which is actually the pop songstress Naomi Tamura and her guitarist Kenji Kitajima, along with Tony Franklin (bass) and the American drummer Carmine Appice. Appice was part of the '60's Top of the Pop group "Vanilla Fudge" which specialized in taking pop s...

Lovetide
Oh, this is terrific. Thanks for the time taken to create a translation; without it I would never have imagined the analogy.
What is the song's Japanese name, and on what album does this song Lovetide appear?

Thanks for that translation! Now that lyric reflects more substance than just cliche. I understand there is a use of cliche sometimes, but I sure would like some depth. Not knowing what the words mean sometimes leads me to think they say more than they really do. On the other hand, think of Stevie W...

Lyrics
I have to agree with Miwa in the Asahi article (kindly translated here) that her lyrics in English are lacking. The images miss her heart. I also think that they miss the particular and specific, which I can see she uses in the Japanese -- based on the Web translations by Cori and Les. The English s...

How did you find DCT?
In 1997 I was watching the "Swan Princess" video with my kids [for the Nth time] and at the end we got distracted and let the tape keep running ... past the credits, past the promo for this and that, and suddenly we were in the middle of a music video -- and from that I was off and running ... for a...

ASAHIYA closing, Half Off
For those of you in New York City, ASAHIYA BOOKSTORES is closing their shop near Grand Central and -- yes -- they have a few DCT albums and singles left. 50% off regular price, of course. ASAHIYA BOOKSTORES may also be closing their shops in Chicago and Los Angeles as well, I just don't know.. I pic...

A N R I
I discovered a singer called "Anri" in her album called "Half +Half" which I keep coming back to. I thought she was obscure but then saw on her web site that she has two dozen albums out there. I'm always especially fond of J-popstars who write their own songs. The music is flip with catchy hooks, a...

DCT Lyrics
Thanks for your comments on the lyrics. I have no background in the Japanese language and so for these several years have relied on the website of Cori + Les and "Sing or Die" to have a sense of the meaning of the words. Frankly, I've been disappointed in the "Sing or Die" lyrics, thinking they were...

Bonnie Pink
:D I listen to a little Bonnie Pink daily. Bonnie's songs are about half english, half Japanese, often within a single song. She writes the music, lyrics and plays guitar, and I always appreciate j-pop who go beyond a produced voice. Her music is inventive, the lyrics both sly and fun, and her band ...

Satoko Ishimine
To me, the j-pop vocalist Satoko Ishimine has a voice much like Miwa's -- alto T with a large range and strength. I have her 1996 CD "Passion." There is little passion in the songs, though I like it anyway.
