BoA invades America
Hey folks,
For those that don't know, another JPop star is trying to break through into America. This time it's Korean born BoA:

(If the video is too slow, you'll be able to find it at the link below or at the usual place...or on US TV eventually ^^ It's not DCT level of course, but it's kinda catchy...might catch on with the kids....)
She's even got some buzz going:

Should be interesting to she how she does...

I don't know... looks and sounds too much like Utada's attempt. She started out with a number one dance club hit, and quickly disappeared. Still, I suppose, someone's going to do this at the right time, at some point, and then...
I don't think it's a good idea for j-pop acts who want to break in the U.S. to try and imitate Western acts. They both sound like they're trying too hard, and that doesn't usually work.

Usually, debut albums take a while to catch hold in the U.S. Whitney Houston's debut dropped out of the Billboard Charts before coming back in after MONTHS and eventually became the highest selling female debut ever. A more recent example would be Katy Perry's album, even though I really don't like her (lol). It didn't blow up until after a few months.
We'll just have to wait and see after about a year (or if she gives up and goes back to Japan first) to pass any judgement.

While I hope the best for her (the album is very US radio friendly), the US music industry hasn't given much slack towards letting Far East artists take their time in gaining a US fanbase. I'd imagine she has half the time to make an impression...
On the flip side, both she and Utada are going for the gold at the same time. I wonder if that'll will help or hurt chances...(or nothing at all...)
