Re: New Tour: Dreams Come True 35th Anniversary Urawan 2024/2025
We were selected in the lottery, but hit a firewall; Lawson said that the tickets had to be paid for at one of their stores. We asked if we could pay online and were told no. POWER PLANT was not willing to help us either, but one of our relatives in Japan was, so it looks like we will be going to Fukuoka in October!
Re: New Tour: Dreams Come True 35th Anniversary Urawan 2024/2025
It's been a while. But sod it, I'm going!
I will be in Hong Kong to visit family for Christmas, and it just so happens I can make it to the Nagoya shows. Luckily Viagogo Japan is available in English and I have secured a ticket for Sunday the 29th of December!

Sorry this is taking so long, but I have been very busy with the events leading up to
my retirement.
I'm not official yet, but I should be able to update this soon, as I have a lot more time now.
Hakata is a fun town!

Been looking in that direction too recently

Re: New Tour: Dreams Come True 35th Anniversary Urawan 2024/2025
I just got back from Japan a week ago. This time I went to the Nagoya concert. It was a much smaller venue comparing with all the previous DCT concerts I attended. To be honest, I was a little bit disappointed. There're (almost) no hot/popular songs on this tour. Good and bad, I should say. It's a fresh experience. Seeing Miwa herself is always a very very happy thing to me. I'm looking forward to the next Wonderland now.
Re: New Tour: Dreams Come True 35th Anniversary Urawan 2024/2025
We arrived at the port of Fukuoka Hakata-ku around 10AM. A short walk away from the station was the venue: Marine Messe Fukuoka. It is divided into two buildings; A, the concert venue, capacity 15,000, and B, a smaller hall holding 6,000. We arrived early as we could not find out when the concert goods vendors would open until we got there. the vendor area wouldn't open until noon, but a line had already formed with a few people who looked like they had been there awhile.
The venue sits aside a small bay, the other side of which was an observation tower. We walked over there to pass some time before joining the line. Going up the tower gave us a spectacular view of the bay, the port, and the city, including Hakata's two domed venues, both seating 40,000+. Afterward, we returned to get in line. About fifty people were now in front of us, and the line grew steadily. It was a sunny day, unseasonably warm for October, so I went to get us something to drink. On the way, I met some DCT fans who were, as usual, amazed a gaijin would come to the show (once again, I believe I was the only foreigner there).
The vendor area opened just before noon. I wasn't impressed with the goods selection, which mostly featured the Warukuma on gray backgrounds. I finally settled on a small towel and one of the more colorful t-shirts. I also picked up the Wonderland 2023 Blu-ray. We had lunch afterward at the restaurant on the second floor of building B, then sat down outside for awhile until a crowd began to form near the venue doors. These opened at 3:30 for a 5PM start. This medium-sized venue was much easier to get around in than the shows we had seen previously in Japan (Sapporo, Tokyo, Yokohama). Once again POWER PLANT got us good seats, on the floor six rows back from the stage, far enough away to be able to see all the activity.
The stage was similar to what we saw in Yokohama, but smaller and rectangular, with scaffolding at the corners to support the lighting and four screens. Center stage held a riser for the drums and keyboards. Dividing our side of the floor and duplicated on the opposite side, a ramp angled down to the stage. The ramps each held a gondola shaped like a swimming duck (or "chicken," as the fan we spoke to called it). A passage running under the ramps allowed Miwa and Masa board the ducks for their entrance. Grandstands surrounded the floor space. The screens played the 'Kaiju' video and an ad for Honda featuring Masa (the actual car was outside in the vendor area). While we waited, one of Keita's understudies came out and showed us the dance steps we would use for 'Ola! Vitoria!'
When the lights went down, the screens came on with an introductory film, a Star Wars spoof of the imperial hangar bay with rows of metallic Waru-duck soldiers saluting Warukuma. As the screens went off, spotlights hit the gondolas as Waru-duck soldiers marched on stage leading the band members. Miwa and Masa entered the stage via the descending duck gondolas on either side. The show started on a somewhat low key with 'Ai suru Kokoro,' but picked up speed with 'Go on, baby!' and 'Asahi no Senrei,' with a mature but still cool MC Marse backing Miwa on vocals. Miwa was wearing one of her usual concoctions, a red and black striped top with red plaid skirt (with bustle). Under purple and green lights, Juon joins them for a guitar solo as the first group of songs ends.
Miwa welcomes us, saying this is the first Urawan in sixteen years (the intervening one cancelled due to the pandemic) and a special opportunity to see and hear songs not usually staged, by fan request. Masa, resplendent in plaid coat, silver slacks, and red shoes, reminds us he is sixty-six, and digresses into how "sexy" and "funky" Hakata is. Miwa gives him a sidelong glance, which initiates the standard back-and-forth between them, Miwa basking in the adulation of the crowd, Masa complaining he is unnoticed. Things become musical again with 'Fall in Love Again' and 'Kyo dake wa,' with the p-fairies (female) dancers entering via ducks. 'Ko no machi de' ends with Masa complaining about how few "Masa's" (and how many "Miwa's") there are, and 'I'm a liar' makes me smile. 'Yuuwaku' brings up the rotating riser and red lights, with 'Futsu no konya no koto o -let tonight be forever remembered-' ending the set.
The band is reintroduced and they move into 'Sonna no Ai janai,' 'UNPRETTY DAY,' 'Innocent,' and 'Sayonara 59ers!, followed by an extended version of 'Sunshine' featuring a solo by drummer Akira (with Masa on cowbell), a keyboard solo and a guitar solo by Juon. 'Mikazuki' is followed by the reintroduction of Akira and his drum synthesizers giving a one-man orchestra demo with excerpts from Beethoven's 'Ode to Joy' and the 5th Symphony. This gives Miwa and Masa time to change into bulky white suits to perform 'Aishite waratte ureshikute namidashite,' 'Sekaiju kara saynounara' (twenty-one ways to say goodbye) 'To the beat, not to the beat,' and 'Ai ga tadoritsuku basho.' The ducks roll down to the stage again, picking Miwa and Masa up on opposite sides (we had Miwa) to perform 'Godspeed!,' 'Carnaval,' 'Ola! Vitoria!' (with dance steps) and 'Aa mou!!'.
Miwa and Masa rejoin the band onstage, they take their bows, Miwa blows a kiss, and they exit offstage away from our side. The lights come up, and we amuse ourselves by performing the wave until everyone returns, now in Urawan robes. Masa breaks into one more round of complaints before the serene, dreamy 'Kaiju' is performed. Then Miwa rides the duck on the opposite side of the stage as the band goes into a rousing version of 'Ikite yuku no desu' while MC Marse rides up and down on our side shouting through a megaphone (which neither my wife nor I could understand). 'Ikite' ends with an explosion of tinsel streamers, some of which I managed to catch. The Urawan-Star Wars film returns, ending the concert. Miwa announces a new album and tour for 2026 and looks forward to the 50th anniversary. Masa was on the verge of tears about the possibility of having to perform when he is eighty-one. They bid us farewell until then... The city was kind enough to have buses arrive to take us back to the central station, a short walk from our hotel.
Was it a great show? My wife agrees with sudajiang about the song selection. I thought there were enough hits and lesser-known songs that I enjoyed, but this certainly wasn't DWL (and I need to watch my new disc to make a comparison and possibly to understand some of the stuff they were doing onstage), and unlike DWL, there was
NO DISCO!
The last time my wife and I saw DCT was 2018, and they have changed since then. They are older, of course and while Miwa was in good voice and lively on stage, one could see it was a bit of an effort for her. Masa was not so enthusiastic, and his usual comic complaints were more like whining sometimes. I think he would like to retire (I'm glad I did) but Miwa is not about to let him go just yet. We were glad we got to see them one more time(?) Who knows what the future will bring...
Sorry this took so long. Most of the time I spent writing this involved trying to translate notes taken by stage light and creating the setlist (I am still not 100% sure of at least three of the songs, and may find myself embarrassed when I get the Urawan on disc). I must give my ultimate thanks (again) to my wife for making our trip to the concert happen, besides being the best wife (and tour guide) a fellow could have.
